چکیده

We study regression models for the situation where both dependent and independent variables are square integrable stochastic processes. Questions concerning definition and existence of the corresponding functional linear regression models and some basic properties are explored for this situation. We derive a representation of the regression parameter function in terms of the canonical components of the processes involved. This representation establishes a connection between functional regression and functional canonical analysis and suggests alternative approaches for the implementation of functional linear regression analysis. A specific procedure for the estimation of the regression parameter function using canonical expansions is proposed and compared with an established functional principal component regression approach. As an application example, we present an analysis of mortality data for cohorts of medflies, obtained in experimental studies of aging and longevity.

Generalization of Canonical Correlation Analysis from Multivariate to Functional Cases and its related problems

In multivariate cases, the aim of canonical correlation analysis (CCA) for two sets of variables x and y is to obtain linear combinations of them so that they have the largest possible correlation. However, when x and y are continouse functions of another variable (generally time) in nature, these two functions belong to function spaces which are of infinite dimension, and CCA for them should b...

Extending Correlation and Regression from Multivariate to Functional Data

In this paper, we discuss concepts and methods of functional data analysis. The focus is on the case where a pair of random functions is sampled per experimental unit. We discuss the quantification of the dependency between pairs of random functions by means of functional canonical analysis and linear modeling for L2-processes. Basic concepts of multivariate analysis are extended to the domain ...

Correlation Pattern between Temperatur, Humidity and Precipitaion by using Functional Canonical Correlation

Understanding dependence structure and relationship between two sets of variables is of main interest in statistics. When encountering two large sets of variables, a researcher can express the relationship between the two sets by extracting only finite linear combinations of the original variables that produce the largest correlations with the second set of variables. When data are con...

Functional linear regression after spline transformation

Functional linear regression has been widely used to model the relationship between a scalar response and functional predictors. If the original data do not satisfy the linear assumption, an intuitive solution is to perform some transformation such that transformed data will be linearly related. The problem of finding such transformations has been rather neglected in the development of function...
